Privacy Statement
Short Version
This site keeps all your personal information secret (for a WordPress website). Your personal information is not shared with anyone else.
Long Version
PonyPuristv3.0 has created this privacy statement for ponypurist.com in order to demonstrate my (pretty) firm commitment to privacy. The following statement discloses the information gathering and dissemination practices for this web site. Note that as this web site is a WordPress blog, its privacy will be fundamentally limited by whatever is programmed into that medium. Other than that…
When visitors leave comments on the site, I (the web site and/or its owner(s)) collect the data shown in the comments form, and the WordPress program also (apparently) collects the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. (I guess that’s fine since no one likes spam.)
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. (Who uses Gravatars, anyways?) The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. Comments and Gravatar may be used in order to create other media, such as a screenshot or video (If I feel like it) or ever get around to it.
Media
If you upload images to the web site (Wow – is that even possible on WordPress?), any embedded location data (i.e.: EXIF GPS) may be visible to visitors to the web site if they choose to download and extract the data. Therefore, consider stripping such images of their embedded location data before uploading (Windows 10 provides this function by right-clicking on a file, selecting “Properties,” going to “Details,” and then clicking on “Remove Properties and Personal Information.” Next, select if you want to remove the personal data from that file or create a copy with the personal data removed and click “OK”) them to the site. I won’t do anything mean with the data if you happen to upload a file to the site with embedded location data.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on the web site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and web site in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. (I have no idea how this works.) These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit my login page, I will set a temporary cookie (Cookies – how do they work?) to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser (I’ll take your word for it, WordPress Suggested Text Sample.)
When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article (What? How would a visitor even do this?), an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
External Links
This site contains links to other web sites. This web site and its owner(s) are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such web sites.
Embedded Content
Embedded Content From Other Web Sites
Articles on this web site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other web sites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other web site. Having said (read) that, I don’t like embedded content and try to avoid using it (although I do cite my sources.)
These web sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that web site. (Yeah, that’s why I recommend browsing the web with uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger.)
Data Sharing
Who I Share Your Data With
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. (Can WordPress really do this?)
Data Retention
How Long I Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. It’s also because a good comment is a work of art and ought to be preserved for posterity.
For users that register on my web site (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Web site administrators (myself) can also see and edit that information. (Although I wonder how.)
Data Rights
What Rights You May Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me (I think you just log in and click on some things.) You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you (again, by logging in and clicking on some things.) This does not include any data that I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. It also doesn’t apply to your username and comment, which is considered a work of art, and which I may retain for potential use in future media.
Data Transfer
Where Your Data is Sent
Visitor comments may (if spam detection is enabled) be checked through an automated spam detection service.
