Hello ponies,
Here’s a review of the concept album, “The Pink Side of The Moon” by 4everfreebrony (https://www.youtube.com/@4everfreebrony)…
It may be an old album in terms of brony-years, but I think it’s still relevant. It’s about what might happen if a joyous pony such as Pinkie Pie ended up on the moon. As such, it seems to contain themes within the existentialist-absurdist-nihilistic trifecta. Although I usually like listening to originals, I didn’t realize there was an older version available. So, I ended up listening to the remastered version, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCEmoXG3pqs&list=PLu58e_7jZWtgttxhHXSrClOUYIRvaByIX.
In regard to the show, the album brings up thoughts of the episode, “Party of One,” where Pinkie Pie thinks her friends are lying to her and avoiding her because they don’t want to be her friends anymore; it’s also reminiscent of when Pinkie Pie turns gray in the Season 2 opening. As the album has to do with being on the moon, and there is a Luna song about that, it was inevitable that a Luna-esque “vibe,” as they say, might have slipped into the song (see “Lost on the Moon” by WoodenToaster); I’m also reminded of a princess Woona video in which she receives hard-boiled points while on the moon (if you know what video this is, consider posting it in the comments). I also get a Sweetie Bot (“Sweetie’s Big Race” song from “Friendship is Witchcraft”) feel at times. (It looks like the album came after these songs/videos had been released.) (Pinkie Pie makes exploring the moon seem fun.)
The album was labeled as a “concept album” I think because its story isn’t exactly concise, although I think this works for Pinkie.
The album goes on to explore reality, society, science, and the superfluousness of words.
Later on in the album, the songs start to slow down and perhaps get a bit confusing. (Do you think Rainbow Dash secretly makes an appearance at about this time in the album? What do you think the song is talking about here?)
Mission-control, Willy Wonka-esque, and “Suddenly I See”song feels….
Overall, this album has a very Pinkie-esque feel to it, swatching between being light and serious at different times; it’s also pink and fluffy.
It is an excellent album.
